Holiday Travels

Travelling are common to most people these days.  For holiday, that is.

What is it with travelling which entices people to give up their hard earned savings?  Especially if its a country which is a distance away and high exchange rate comparatively to the Malaysian currency.

There is an innate nature in all of us to be curious of the culture, sight, scenery, food and etc. of another human on the other side of the globe.  The sense of adventure, maybe.  The desire to see, smell, touch and taste.  The curiosity which needs to be satisfied and then, to be happy knowing that we have "Been there, done that!"

I have done my fair share of travelling but honestly,  to say that I know another country well after being there for 4 days 3 nights, 10 days 9 nights or even 3 weeks its probably hoodwinking myself.  I probably would have seen 10-30% of what the country represents.

Maybe seeing 10-30% of a country is not that bad.  At least I know for myself that....

..... the people in Australia are warm, helpful and they probably have as many Chinese and Indians as Malaysia

.... the people in the US actually have blond hair (some anyway)

.... the people in Europe... some don't speak English and insist on not speaking it

.... the people in Indonesia loves their car horn.  They even harmonize between other drivers

....  the people in Hong Kong "laser stare" with their eyes when you don't buy their merchandises (after staring at it for more than 5 seconds.  Wanna touch it?  Don't even think about it!),

.... the men in the Middle East really do have very hairy chest (No, I did not peep!!! Really!!! *innocent face*)

.... and our Singaporean neighbours are really friendly and not arrogant .... when they have lived in overseas for a looooong time (and remain overseas).  And the lecture I've got from the taxi driver about how great and safe his country is vs yours is a rare occurrence.

.... and the people in Thailand are one of the most amazing I have ever met.  The country, the people and the food.... Since I lived there for 3 years - I would say that I have had the great privilege of seeing more than 70% of the physical country...  This is my favorite country as a holiday destination.

How about you?

Hailstorm

Tiny ice cubes in my garden

It is not a common occurrence to 'rain ice' in Malaysia.   We don't even have winter or snow!

But.

On this fine day, 15 March 2011,  the Teenage Son and I caught a glimpse of it in our garden.

Could I have taken some crushed ice from the fridge and throw it up and still feel excited about the experience?

Hmm....

I doubt so.

It would be like buying a papaya fruit from the market and hang it on my papaya tree...

I Look Good In Boots

I look good in boots, I tell ya!

If I wear one in Malaysia...

Hmm....

I suspect all the stares from passer-by would be because...

.... I look hot

.... I look sexy

....  I have longer legs than them

....  My leather boots are expensive

....  They envy me

or

....  This crazy woman wearing leather boots in 34C weather????!

....  The sauna effect is making me disappear day by day, inch by inch...

....  The heat is always double compared to the local weather report...  (Can't they report it correctly?)

....  Dripping wet is a no longer confined to gym sessions

....  My fashion statement should be made on the other side of the globe

But I look good in boots, I tell ya!

That is why I left it in Melbourne.

Love Never Dies

"Love Never Dies"  by Andrew Lloyd Webber

I could not pass up the opportunity to watch this play while I was in Melbourne.

The fine arts.

A live play.

A sequel to the famous "Phantom of the Opera".

How was it?

Well, let's put it this way,  its nothing like the movie Taken, starred by Liam Neeson or 2012.. constant action every 2 seconds.

With live plays like this, its more like watching The Sound of Music.

Great vocals,  amazing backdrops, staging, beautiful men and women.

There were raving reviews in the local newspaper.  Andrew Lloyd Webber himself were very pleased with the Melbourne cast.

But.

The ending is very sad.

Sob.  Sob.

Winter in Flinders Street

Flinders Street Station in Melbourne

I was at Flinders Street Station in Melbourne at 12am... almost nearing winter.

It was *shivers* coldddd.

I am a summer human.  Cool is nice but not like this.

In weather like this, give me a plate of mutton curry or nasi lemak or teh tarik!

Hmmm...

Where to get it in the middle of the night in Melbourne.  Huh?  Where?

One coffee to go, please!

Autumn

The change of season.

The colors of Autumn are amazingly beautiful.

Dark green in summer and eventually turning yellow, maroon and brown in Autumn....Then the leaves begin to shed.  All over the park and street.

Trampled.

Have you ever felt this way?

Once upon a time, strong, healthy, lush with green leaves.... and then changing ... turning into an insignificant unattractive tree?

Well.  Cheer up.

Its only a change in season.

Yes.

Its only for a time.

Things will be better.

You'll see.

Blog Name

I tried to wean myself of blogging.

But... but...

Its kinda addictive, in a way.

After some consideration, I closed my 1st blog, "Journey of My Life".   The Gardening blog was going on nicely till ... Guess what?  I forgot the password - so clever.  So, the gardening blog is off-limits, literally.

It took me a long time to come up with a new blog name... about 5 looong minutes.

Journey of a New Season.

Indeed it is.

A New Season

Its me again.

A new blog for a new season.

What is new other than its official that I am no longer a teenager?

Well.

*screams from the background*  *The Teenage Son laughing his guts out*

I have a feeling that this time round, the ride is going to be quite different.  I just have to wait and see.  After all 2011 is almost half gone... What have I been up to?

Don't even get me started!
